Use with AI
Describe a map animation. Your AI app builds it.
Connect NavLayers to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or any app that speaks MCP. Ask for “a flight from Berlin to Tokyo for a YouTube Short, highlight Japan, pins on both cities”, and you get a link that opens the finished animation in the NavLayers editor. Preview it, change anything, and export the video as usual.
The address
Every app needs the same address. Add it as a remote MCP server (also called a custom connector or app); the app then asks you to sign in to NavLayers and allow it.
https://navlayers.com/mcpClaude
- On claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Name it NavLayers, paste the address, and choose Add, then Connect.
- Sign in to NavLayers and press Allow. In a chat, switch NavLayers on in the tools menu and describe your animation.
Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http navlayers https://navlayers.com/mcp, then type /mcp in Claude Code to sign in.
Claude plugin: navlayers.plugin bundles the connector with a skill that teaches Claude how to plan good map animations (shots, timing, looks). In the Claude app, drop it into a chat and press install.
ChatGPT
- Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings: turn on Developer mode (in a workspace, an admin may have to allow it).
- Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create: name NavLayers, paste the address, authentication OAuth.
- Sign in to NavLayers and press Allow. In a chat, pick NavLayers from + → More.
Codex
In a terminal:
codex mcp add navlayers --url https://navlayers.com/mcp
codex mcp login navlayers
Or in ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.navlayers]
url = "https://navlayers.com/mcp"
Codex skill: navlayers-codex.zip has the same setup and a skill for planning animations; copy its skills/navlayers-map-animations folder into ~/.agents/skills/.
Cursor, VS Code and other apps
Cursor (~/.cursor/mcp.json):
{ "mcpServers": { "navlayers": { "url": "https://navlayers.com/mcp" } } }
VS Code (.vscode/mcp.json):
{ "servers": { "navlayers": { "type": "http", "url": "https://navlayers.com/mcp" } } }
Any other app: add a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) with the address above. Sign-in uses OAuth with dynamic client registration or a client ID metadata document, so there is nothing to copy by hand.
What to ask for
- “Make a 9:16 map animation: start on the globe, fly to Italy, then Rome, then a route to Venice. Pins on both, highlight Italy, daylight look.”
- “The Silk Road from Xi'an to Venice through Samarkand and Baghdad, as a dashed route, 16:9, 60 fps.”
- “Make the flight slower and use the paper look.” (it changes the last animation)
- “How many clips do I have left this month?”
What the app can do
It can make, change, list and delete animations in your account, look up places on the map, and see your plan and how many clips you have left. It cannot see your password, your payment details or the maps saved in your browser, and it cannot buy anything. The video itself is always made in your browser when you press Export, and counts toward your clips as usual.
See and disconnect connected apps on your account page. Animations made this way open for anyone who has their link, so share a link only with people who may see that map.
