About us
Map animations without the heavy software
NavLayers lets anyone make the kind of map animation you see in documentaries and travel videos: the camera flies across a globe, a route draws itself between two cities, a country lights up. All in the browser, in minutes.
Why we built it
Good map animations used to need After Effects, a paid map plugin and a powerful computer. NavLayers puts the same tools in a web page. You frame shots like a camera operator; the camera works out a smooth flight between them; pins, routes and highlights appear on cue. Videos come out frame-exact, from 720p to 4K at 60 frames per second.
For people who do edit in After Effects, NavLayers exports a package with the map and the overlays on separate layers and a script that builds the composition, with a tracking null for every pin.
How it works
Everything happens on your own computer. The world map, the place names and the video encoder all run in your browser, so your projects are never uploaded and the editor stays quick. Our server only does what needs a server: your account, your plan and counting your clips.
Built on open source
NavLayers is built on LazyMapLayers by Raisul Sohan, a free map animation extension for After Effects published under the MIT licence. Its camera maths, map looks and place search run inside NavLayers. NavLayers is an independent project and is not affiliated with Raisul Sohan or Adobe.
The map data comes from Natural Earth (public domain), the maps are drawn with MapLibre GL JS, and the type is Archivo and IBM Plex Mono (SIL Open Font License).
